European Championships Day Two - early events

Kelly Sotherton remains in second place after four events in the heptathlon. Jessica Ennis has slipped back to fourth place. Kluft is on 5046 points, Sotherton has 4876, Holland’s Karin Ruckstuhl 4829 and Ennis 4769. Louise Hazel is lying 17th.

Nicola Sanders progressed through the 400m rounds with a 51.80sec second place. Joanne Cuddihy took 2nd in her heat with 51.41sec. Marilyn Okoro PBed with 52.02sec to finish third and also go through.

Anyika Onuora progressed in the 100m with a 11.38sec third place behind favourite Kim Gevaert of Belgium. Joice Maduaka was second fastest qualifier, winning her heat in 11.24sec. Emma Ania went through to the semi-finals too by finishing third in her heat 11.41sec. Anna Boyle was 5th in her 100m heat with 11:60sec. Emily Maher was not able to line up for her heat due to a hamstring injury suffered in her warm-up.
