Cram asks questions about Linford role

Steve Cram has questioned the wisdom of UKA’s appointment of Linford Christie as a mentor to young athletes.

Christie who a hatful of won major titles in the 90s but then failed a drug test for nandrolone in 1999 after running a low key race for fun after retirement.

That failed test means that under British Olympic Association he cannot be involved in the Beijing Games or London in 2012.

Cram told Radio 5 "It's a difficult one. The biggest issue surrounding Linford at the moment is as far as the BOA are concerned he cannot be involved in Beijing.

"So it begs the question if he does end up with some strong relationships with our sprinters, then what is the point if somewhere in the future, particularly 2008, he isn't going to be able to be involved?

"It's a very difficult one in terms of moral stance on drugs."
