New 110m World Record

Liu Ziang scorched to a new world record of 12.88sec in the 110m hurdles at the IAAF Super Grand Prix in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Tuesday 11 July.

The Chinese athlete had previously been joint record holder with Colin Jackson after Ziang matched Jackson’s time from the 1993 World Champs in the 2004 Olympics.

Ziang’s season’s best going into the meeting had been 13.19sec but his lunge for the line ahead of Dominique Arnold of the US saw him dip under the world record – and the electronic timing system. His time was initially given as 12.90sec – still beneath the old world record – but after looking at the result more closely the time was amended with Arnold given the 12.90sec time and going second on the all time list.
