Athletes in action in Lucerne

Ireland’s Michelle Carey continued her great form this season in Lucerne by winning the 400m hurdles with 56.62sec.

Also in action at the EAA Spitzenleichtathletik meeting in Switzerland was Christian Malcolm. He ran 20.55sec for third place in the 200m behind World Championships Silver medallist Wallace Spearmon of the USA (20.30sec). Malcolm also took a fourth place in the 100m with 10.26sec as the USAs. Xavier Carter won in 10.11sec.

Andy Baddeley won a tactical 1500m with 3min 40.87sec. Becky Lyne, the 800m specialist who has been a revelation this year in lowering her PB to 1min 58.20, recovered from her fall at the European Cup to run 4min 06.85sec for fourth over 1500m. Joice Maduaka clocked 11.38sec in the 100m. Andy Turner finished fourth in the sprint hurdles with 13.56sec Martin Rooney ran 46.21sec in the 400m.

In the 3K two Irish women were in action - Mary Cullen finished 9th in 9min 05.16sec and Roisin McGettigan ran 9min 10.87sec for 13th place. Fionnuala Britton ran a massive 10sec PB with 4min 18.92sec for 1500m.
