Dave Moorcroft steps down from UKA

Moorcroft has announced he is to step down from the job he has held since taking over at the newly founded UKA in 1997 (after the bankruptcy of the British Athletics Federation).

Moorcroft has said he sees it as the right time to step down and leave someone else the time to make their own impact in the build up to the 2012 Olympics.

As head of UKA Moorcroft has seen the start of the implementation of the Foster Review of 2004.

The finances of UKA are in a sound position, especially when compared to the bankruptcy of the BAF.

However following a disappointing European Championships with only one British gold medal the many feel the clock is ticking on getting things right for the 2012 Olympics. Some of the younger athletes performed well in Gothenburg but the overall medal haul was low.

There are also wider issues in the sport to be addressed as the implementation of the Foster Review has raised controversy and sections of the sport feel alienated from UKA.

Moorcroft will stay on for up to six months while the search for a successor takes place.

What do you think of Dave Moorcroft’s reign as Chief Executive of UKA? What will be the issues faced by his successor who is suited to the job?
