Jon Brown is set to make his debut in the BUPA Great South Run on 22nd October.
Brown made a winning comeback last weekend in the Nainamo City half marathon won the Canadian event by 21sec over a tough course.
Brown has finished fourth at two Olympic marathons but not raced for 10 months due to injury. Brown won in 67min 28sec but said the course had a big effect on the times. He said: “The field included some decent Canadian internationals though, so I felt that I pushed fairly well.
“The pace was slow for the first nine kilometres mainly due to being mostly uphill - around this point I applied some pressure and pulled away.
"The race felt OK, but I was little tired from training going into the race and also I'm lacking competitive fitness.
“But overall it was a good introduction back into racing and I can only get quicker from now on.”
Brown is looking to line up at both the Great North Run on Tyneside and the Portsmouth 10 mile event as he continues preparations for the Fukuoka marathon in December.
Brown said: "After New York, I had a problem with the back of my knee, then before London this year, I had plantar fascia problem and also a calf tear."
That saw him miss not only the London event in April, but also prevented him from competing in the European Championships marathon last month in Gothenburg.
The Great South Run has a strong Sports Fitness connection. Sonia O’Sullivan achieved a world best time of 51 minutes at the BUPA Great South Run in 2002.
