Tyson Gay runs 19.68sec

US Sprinter Tyson Gay clocked a stunning 19.68sec 200m on Sunday.

Gay is now joint third on the all time list with Michael Johnson’s once sublime world record now looking far more attainable. Johnson ran 19.32sec to take gold at the Atlanta Olympics. Behind him on that day Frankie Fredericks ran 19.68sec – the same time as Gay – and Xavier Carter ran 19.63sec in Lausanne in July.

The same meeting saw an epic two race battle between Tirunesh Dibaba and Meseret Defar. Dibaba beat Defar by just 0.01sec in the 5K (16min 04.77sec to 16min 04.78sec) before Defar got revenge in the 3K winning in 8min 34.22sec to 8min 34.74sec.
