Stay Motivated
Having a good perspective will help keep you motivated. There are different directions you can look in to help you get motivated and stay motivated. Remember that we can use both positives and negatives.
Looking back can give us some good motivation. If you are getting back into the shape you were last in a few years ago it can be useful to remember what it felt like to be that fit and healthy – a real motivation to get adequate rest, eat healthily and do suitable exercise. Equally if you have progressed your fitness not wanting to go back to what you were a few months back will provide a strong encouragement.
Looking forwards can also drive us on to doing the right things and setting some really good habits. Looking good for next months holiday or next April’s marathon can give really tangible goals that give focus, encouragement and motivation. And we can turn these into both positive and negative spurs to action. A great marathon is a really positive experience, a marathon where you reap the effects of poor diet, too little rest and minimal training is going to be no fun! Keep you goals in mind. Visualise what it will be to achieve them and, if necessary, what missing out will feel like. You’ll be exercising wisely before you know it!
But our motivations don’t all have to be in the past or future. Give yourself every reason to do the right thing as you enjoy it. Make friends at the gym or arrange to meet a partner to train. Being able to find a training partner can make a massive difference Do exercise you enjoy. And NEVER fall into the trap of healthy eating being boring. A variety of healthy food should be far nicer to eat than another stodgy packet of crisps. Buy the healthy foods that you know you like, and a variety of them.
