Be productive - make an appointment with rest
The problem we usually have is that we don’t use our diaries properly or misunderstand the words in them.
Look in your diary. Does it have words such as rest, recovery, sleep, eating, socialising or recreation written in it? Your health will take a hammering without them! A holiday is often the only recreation that gets put in the diary. But recreation, leisure, rest, family and socialising are not optional extras. They are vital parts of our lives not forbidden pleasures! Rest should not be a four letter word.
Go through your diary, or think through the plan you have in your head for the week. Add all your leisure, rest, recreation and social activities in. How much of them do you need? How much do you want? When can you do them most effectively? Arrange your time to get the maximum benefit from them. You will need more rest after a busy day. You may get less benefit from socialising if you are tired or if the month’s money is running low. When is it easiest to get together with a group of friends? Plan wisely.
Fill in entries for exercise. Remember everyone should exercise for at least 30min three times a week (that can include exertions such as getting stuck into the garden). Allow yourself time to prepare meals and plan when you need to buy food. Often junk food or takeaways creep in when time is too tight to cook properly or when the cupboard has been allowed to become bare. The busier you are the more important it is to be eating properly. Poor nutrition will slow you down and make you more tired.
